Week 6: 51-60

51) What personality trait in a person raises a red flag for you?

Overly opinionated; racist remarks; closed mind

52) Have you ever resented someone?  If so, what for?

Yes. The people who ridiculed me in the 4th grade and middle school.

53) How have you changed over the past 5 years?

I've become my mom's caregiver; I write less.

54) Have you ever painted a house?

I've painted the INSIDE, not the outside.

55) Have you ever had a surprise party (that was an actual surprise)?

Once. My 1st college b/f threw me one.

56) What makes you feel miserable?

Sinusitis; ear infections; general sickness

57) What's the best costume you've ever worn?

My Scarlet O'Hara/Brett/Glinda The Good Witch dress

58) What's been the hardest loss you've had to take?

Losing my dad; having files crash on my computer w/o backing them up.

59) Do you like sunny days or rainy ones better?

Depends on my mood and if I have to work. Sunny days are nice, but a rainy one when I don't have to leave the house and curl up with a good book is cozy also.

60) What does your typical Friday Night look like?

I've become a very boring person. Normally I'm at work, but if I'm off, then watching TV at home or reading, or working on the computer. Once in a great while we'll go out to eat somewhere, and I'm generally in bed around midnight,

Week 5: 41-50

 41) Have you ever eaten an entire tube of Pringles by yourself? (or GS cookies)

Pringles:  Yes, the sour cream and onion ones

GS Cookies:  I'm addicted to Thin Mints, and by the time this blog airs, I'll probably have eaten all 6 boxes, even before the check clears!

42) Do you like Champagne?  If so, what's your favorite brand?

I'm not particularly fond of Champagne, but I'll drink a glass at weddings.  I'd love to try some really expensive ones, like Cristal or Dom Perignone.  One glass of Martini and Rossi just isn't that great.

43) What nervous habits do you have?

My one bad habit is, I'm a nail-biter. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

44) What do you do when you and your BFF get into a fight?

Sulk for a day, then make up.  I'm a peacemaker; I get over things and apologize for careless words.

45) What do you think should be a wonder of the world that isn't?

No clue....Niagra Falls???

46) What comforts you on bad days?

Doggy snuggles on the couch, a good book, and a glass of wine. Also singing angry songs at karaoke, or just singing karaoke, period.

47) Do you treat yourself and your body with respect?

Probably not as well as I should.  I'm in debt up to my eyeballs, so I'm pushing myself to earn $$.

48) What's something you eat that others find gross?

Raw potato; dry cereal.

49) Have you ever broken the law and didn't get caught? If so, how?

When I was 10, I stole a candy bar and did not get caught.  I've also accidentally gone through a couple of 'pink' lights.

50) What is something you fear might change you?

Losing my mom or my husband.

Wednesday, February 12, 2025

Week 4: 31-40

31) Have you ever won a contest?

Does winning MBA in 1983 with my fellow bandmates count?

32) What gives you cheap thrills?

Singing karaoke; trivia night; playing trivia at BW3; hanging out with friends.

33) What do you think is worth waiting for?

Anything desired or attaining a goal is worth waiting for.  Delayed gratification makes it sweeter.

34) Are you an organ donor?  Why/why not?

Yes. I'm not going to need my body after I'm gone.

35) Should parenting classes be mandatory for new parents?

In some circumstances, yes. There are girls having babies who have never changed a newborn, never baby-sat; never took Childhood Education, or who don't have good role models.  My daughter was lucky; she lived with us for the first several months and years of her daughter's life, and we helped her.

36) What is the #1 thing people are always asking for your help with?

Up until 2019, child care. Now, I'm always the 1st person called into work if they're short-handed and I'm off that day.

37) What movie did you love, but hate the sequel? (Or remake?)

I honestly had no desire to watch the remake of Dirty Dancing, or even the updated Miracle on 34th St. I also haven't watched the Lindsay Lohan Parent Trap or Freaky Friday.

As for sequels.....Superman 3??? (I'm not even sure I saw it!)  The George Clooney Batman???

38) Are you more talk, less action or vice versa?

It depends on the issue. If it's a problem with a solution, then for God's sake, quit talking and DO something!

39) Have You ever given someone a handmade present?

Yes. I bake cookies every Christmas and give them away. I've also made cross-stitch items; pillows; and candy.

40) Do you think Great Britain should be part of a united Europe?

I have no comment on this.

 21) What Is Your Most Marked Characteristic?

Toss up between the scar on my forehead, the one on my chin, or the one on my left arm.  Or my graying hair....

22) What Do You Value Most In Friends?

Loyalty; honesty, sense of humor, and to agree to disagree on certain subjects.

23) Who are your favorite writers?

Louisa May Alcott; Danielle Steele; Barbara Taylor Bradford; Lavyrl Spencer; Jean Joachim; Tessa Bailey; Katie Cawood; Robin Cook; Michael Crichton; Stephen King; Michael Palmer; John Saul; John Irving.

I'm very eclectic!

Alex Cross, Toby Holt, all of mine.

25) What historical figure do you most identify with?

Jane Addams, Molly Pitcher

26) Who are your heroes in real life?

My mom

27)  What is your greatest regret?

Not pursuing my writing career sooner; not standing up for myself sooner in 1989; breaking up with Steve S before he sent me plane tickets to Hawaii over Spring Break.

28) How would you like to die?

Peacefully, and in my sleep

29) What is your motto?

Never give up on your dreams.

30) Do you like to watch reruns?

OMG yes!

Week 2: 11-20

Since I decided to do ten at a time, and it took me more than 4 hours to complete the 1st one, weekly it is!  This gives everyone more time to think about and post their own answers.  Hope I didn't scare you off with last week's answers to #5...whew!

11) What Is A Quality You Most Like In A Woman?

Friendliness; an open mind.  I'm a shy person (or at least I was!), so I appreciate women who are easy to talk to, and find common ground.

12) Which Words or Phrases Do You Most Overuse?

According to my editor....So, as, when, what

13) Who Or What Is The Greatest Love Of Your Life?

My kids.  If you mean romantically, then two people I can't name on here.

14) If You Could Change One Thing About Yourself, What Would It Be?

I'd love to go back to March 1986; Sept 1987; August 1989; or March 1991 and slap myself silly The sooner the better.

1986:  I'd wise up I wasn't someone's date

1987: I'd realize this relationship wasn't going anywhere

1989: I'd stop giving this person a 3rd chance

1991: If 1987 didn't change my future, I wouldn't be in the current one

15) What Do You Consider To Be Your Greatest Achievement?

My kids; my books

16) If You Were To Die and Return As A Person or Thing, What Would You Be?

Guardian angel, or someone's conscience????  Just call me Jiminy Cricket....

17) Where Would You Most Like To Live?

St. Pete Beach, Fla

Or anywhere the temp doesn't dip below 50 degrees!

18) What Is Your Most Treasured Possession?

Toss up between my laptop, my favorite book collections, my desk, and my grandma's furniture

19) What Do You Regard As The Lowest Depth of Misery?

Severe depression, where you can't function.  Or severe pain that can't be cured.

20) What Is Your Favorite Occupation?

My current one.

Wednesday, January 22, 2025

Day 1: 1-10

Hold onto your hats....I get a little long-winded at times!

1) What Is Your Idea of Perfect Happiness?

Perfect happiness is found in the following.  And since I wear different hats, I've broken them down by category:

As An Author:

-When I'm happy with my day's work

-When I've had good sales at an event and relaxing with friends afterward, talking shop

-The excitement of cover art/books arriving or simply celebrating a new release

-The moment a positive review arrives

As A Mom/Grandma:

-Holding my little one for the 1st time

-Watching a milestone (first smile, laugh, crawl, step, school, graduation, wedding/finding a Life Partner)

As a Wife:

-Sharing the joys of our relationship/shared experiences

-Simply watching a show or exploring a new place

As A Worker Bee:

-An 'atta-girl' from my boss

-Knowing I've done a good job

2) What Is Your Greatest Fear?

Outliving any or all of my kids.

Secondary is the knowledge I'll someday lose my husband, but that's only because when that day comes, I'll have to go full-time at my Evening Job and cut severely back on the book promotion (I actually feel selfish saying that). Unless by that time my own health is declining and I'll be ready for retirement. Then the fear becomes having enough $$ to pay the bills and medical care.

3) What Is A Trait You Most Deplore In Yourself?

I sometimes have issues making decisions when I'm in charge, especially when challenged. I avoid confrontation at all cost; I've been burned too many times by expressing my opinions in public and being either laughed at or by someone telling in no uncertain terms why I'm wrong.  It's just easier to keep my feelings to myself.

Did I mention I'm a people-pleaser?  And a peacemaker.

I'm also a procrastinator.

4) What Is Your Current State of Mind?

As I'm typing this, dinner is in the oven, and I've had a very lazy day.  Part of me needed the downtime, but another part of my brain is feeling slightly guilty that I still haven't taken the time to finish the weekly laundry. Or type up the story I added words to at the Evening Job. Or even working on Heart Song.  I'll do better tomorrow.  I overslept this morning and didn't even get in the shower until noon.  I like to have the laundry started before noon.

So it's a mixture of peace/relaxation and Domestic Engineer guilt!

5) What Do You Consider the Most Overrated Value?

Here's where things get tricky. Today's culture values beauty, celebrity, and being correct.

Beauty:  Yes, some people are more attractive than others, but once you engage them in conversation, beauty drifts away as you discover their personality.  Some of the most beautiful people can be very ugly on the inside (vain, selfish, uncaring), while some of the most unattractive of my friends are very beautiful souls.  As a child, I always considered myself unattractive, due to my glasses, buck teeth, and suffered from foot-in-mouth disease quite often (see #3). Once braces straightened my teeth; glasses became more acceptable; and I learned to keep my mouth shut (sometimes, anyway!), I blossomed in HS and college. I liken myself the Ugly Duckling; I'm not a graceful Swan, but I'm happy.

Celebrity:  I'm still appalled by the fact there are 'celebrities' out there whose sole claim to fame was a leaked sex tape. Celebrities are those people we see on stage, screen, sports arenas, or on the radio. Are 'influencers' (ie: YouTube, Tik-Tok vloggers) celebrities? Maybe. It depends on how many devoted followers. BUT, in today's culture, being a celebrity means walking a fine line between expressing an opinion and convincing your millions of fans to think like you.

Am I a celebrity?  *scoff* Hardly.  Yes, I've put out nearly 40 books (#38 is arriving this spring and #39 in the fall), but I can still move around town and only a few know my 'other life'. When I first began working at the Evening Job in 2019, I did have a few people ask, "OMG...you're still writing, right?"

As if I could give that up!

But I digress....

Being Correct aka Agreeing with EVERYTHING:  I don't know about you, but I'd rather be happy than right.  There are some people these days who would rather shove their opinions down your throat, then cut you out of their lives just because *gasp* you dare to disagree.  I've bitten my tongue (fingers??) more than once while scrolling FB or even listening to a conversation at lunch, or even at a signing.  I've helped people wearing MAGA hats and 'Biden/Harris 2025' shirts. One of my Bonus Children is in the LGBTQ community, as are many of my friends. I'm a Christian. One of my children has fallen away from God. Do I stop loving them? No. Many people reading this are on my daily prayer list. Even people who aren't reading this are on it.

Does this make me a hypocrite?  I've been accused of it.

For the record, my political leanings are more Libertarian.  The only time I've ever voted a straight ticket was before I began paying attention.

Moving on.....

6) On What Occasion Do You Lie?

Early in my marriage, I lied about certain purchases, because I thought it would upset him. Turnes out he was MORE upset when he found out.

I lied to my mom when I first began writing erotic romance. Years later, when I'd forgotten, she floored me when she matter-of-factly said, "Sex sells." End of discussion (I nearly fell off the couch!).  Later she told me she may not be proud of WHAT I write, but she'll always be proud of my writing ABILITY. Thanks Mom!

I'm a tactful person. If I'm at a signing and a topic arises that I disagree with, I'll keep my mouth shut and find a way to disengage. More recently, I was at my table and the conversation came up about our current political issues, and decided the right way to express myself was to simply say, "You just gotta have faith." I omitted anything further, and the conversation soon turned to more agreeable topics.

7) What Do You Most Dislike About Your Appearance?

Let me refer you back to #5, ha ha.....

Seriously, when I look in the mirror (without my glasses), my father stares back at me.  My new driver's license picture looks my dad in drag.

Some people say I look like my mom. Personally, I don't see it. But I've grown accustomed to the way I look. But that's just my face.

Weight-wise, I'd love to get back down below 200 pounds. That 3rd child did a number on my weight, plus my metabolism shut itself off around 45. I'll be the first to admit, I did it to myself.  All I did from 2011-13 was edit, write, promote, and eat. In my defense, when you're making your own chocolates, and you realize you only have enough to fill one mold out of 10 in the tray, you simply eat the chocolate.  Keep in mind I had 6 trays and made enough for 4 families.  I'm struggling to maintain 230.

It was hard enough to admit I needed plus-sized clothing, but at least at Maurice's, I'm a size 2:)

Hair:  My blonde hair got darker with each kid, but the gray's not that noticeable (at least that's what I tell myself!), but as I'm knocking on 60, I need to find 'my old lady hairdo'. I've loved my hair the past 10 years (shoulder-length bob and various peek-a-boo colors), but as I'm painfully aware in some pics, I'm beginning to look old. The image of myself, and what I see in the mirror, isn't reflected back in a camera lens. The women in my family have always had short hair, so that's the standard I've always had. I just don't think long gray hair is that becoming.  My sister recently asked me why I didn't have bangs, since I inherited our father's high forehead. Simply put, bangs are medium to high maintenance. I don't have the luxury of going to the beauty parlor every week, like my grandma, or even every 5 weeks like my mom. I'm a wash-n-go kind of gal. That being said, I always told myself that when I hit 60, I'd cut it all off and dye it a becoming shade of purple (this back when my dad expressed his disdain for that color the year Prince passed away.....60 seemed soooooo far away back then!) I doubt anyone reading this knew me back in the early 2000s; I was told at the time the length 'took years off' me. Previously, it was halfway down my back.

8) Which Living Person Do You Most Despise?

I don't think there's anyone in particular...'despise' is such a harsh word.  I have no use for people who are so dead set in their ways, they try to change everyone around them. The world would be a boring place if we all thought alike....

I have a strong dislike of one of my former managers, and I'm not ashamed to say I happy-danced all over my area when I learned she'd quit:)

I have a strong dislike of my granddaughter's father. The man is now in prison for the unspeakable things he did to her and her half-sister.

I have an ex-fiance I have no desire to ever see, given the way he treated me during the year he professed to love me.

9) What Is The Quality You Like Most In A Man?

Sense of humor! Also must be able to tolerate my quirky sense of fun.

10)  What Is Your Greatest Extravagance

Right now, it's my book promotions, I spend around $2000 every year in vendor fees, inventory, travel expenses, paying an editor, and paying for cover art, and printer ink.

My most expensive 'purchase'?  When I broke my arm in 2021, the hospital hit me with a $49K bill.  Six months later, my gall bladder cost me $51K. Fortunately, the arm was written off, probably since I tested positive for CV? The gall bladder....only relief I received was a 25% 'discount'.  I frequently get calls from the collection agency.  I can't afford the payments.

Welcome!

Earlier this month, while shopping for stickers at Walmart, I came across an interesting journal called 2000 Questions About Me.  Inside were some interesting questions, such as:

"What's your current state of mind?"

"Do you think the guy should always pay?"

"Who is your favorite movie action hero?"

"Have you ever fired a gun?"

"What is one thing you will never give up on?"

Originally, I wasn't sure how I was going to approach this. Do I put it on my Patreon? Make a blog? Private FB group?

I was NOT going to post one every day, as some of my answers might anger those with opposing views, and believe me, I have NO desire to incite a war of words between people each trying to convince the other is wrong.  I've had enough of that earlier in my (naive) social media. I'm older and wiser (at least, so I think!), and haven't yet reached that stage of my life where I feel free to post my opinions and not care if it costs me friends/acquaintances/readers.

Yes, I still care, since we're in troubled times, and Cancel Culture is still real. I have no desire to find myself cancelled, just because I share a certain political, social, or religious view.

So What's The Goal Here?

A safe place, where I can express my opinions, and where others can also express theirs.  I posted the cover of the journal and the 1st page, so people could see what type of questions were being asked (NOT the typical "what's your name/birthday/first pet/first house/school etc" ones), and only two people replied.  I didn't want to be responsible for running a group, since my energy level is finicky, and 2000 daily questions would span over 5 years!   With 13 questions per page, that would take up a little over 5 months, but that also seems excessive.   10 questions?  6 months.

I think I'm over-thinking this.

Sigh. This is why I hate taking the reins of any group.  I over-think and want to please everyone.

Come back tomorrow for whatever I decide to post!

And the one rule is:

-NO DISRESPECT ALLOWED!  Everyone has a right to their opinion.

Week 65: 641-650

641:  Are you reliable? Mostly....definitely at work. 642:  If you were on Death Row, what would be your last meal? Probably pasta. 643:  Wh...
